Spay or Neuter Your Calgary Pet

Spay and neuter procedures help protect Calgary’s pets in a number of ways. There are many benefits to having your pet spayed or neutered:

  • Spaying and neutering help control the pet population and reduce the number of stray animals.

  • Spaying your dog before her first heat cycle can decrease her risk of mammary cancer, but waiting for her to go through three cycles increases the risk by 2/3.

  • Male dogs tend to roam if they’re intact because they’re looking for a mate. This increases the risk of exposure to disease, being struck by a car, lost, or stolen.

With these factors in mind, the team at Auburn Bay Veterinary Clinic encourages you to consider spaying or neutering your pet. Spay and neuter procedures usually take just a day but can help extend your pet’s life.

What Is the Difference between Spaying and Neutering?

Spaying sterilizes a female pet so she cannot become pregnant. Neutering sterilizes a male pet so he cannot make females pregnant.
